Bad Luck

I have always been an optimist about an eventual positive resolution of the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

It has always seemed to me that the benefits of peace would eventually outweigh the costs.

All it was going to take was a leader with the personal strength and character to make it happen.

I thought we were going to see it happen when Rabin was Prime Minister.  He had the country behind him. He had the credibility as a military leader and was a man of great intellect and integrity.

And then he was killed.

And the chance for peace was lost and all hell broke loose.

Until Sharon arrived on the scene.  And he is also a great military man who rose to the challenge of leadership and was on a path to bring peace to this part of the world that has seen so little.

And now he has been struck down by his own body.

Damn.
