On The Beach
A belated Merry Christmas to everyone. We spent yesterday in transit and I did not have time to write a post wishing everyone season's greetings. We did our Christmas a day early on Christmas Eve (borrowing a bit from a Wilson family tradition of opening one gift on Christmas Eve) and then caught an early flight to Mexico where we are on the beach until New Year's.
I will be taking it easy, reading a lot, and likely writing a bit too. It is the time of year to kick back and relax and I am doing just that.

Enjoy and a happy New Year!(doesn’t look like Tulum.)
Its not. Pacific coast. Ixtapa
you know what they say – west coast is the best coast 🙂
What city are you staying in? Have you vacationed in Mexico before? How does it compare with the Caribbean. I relocated to the west coast and am considering Mexico as a vacation spot. Any Foursquare activity? Is it in English or Spanish?
Mexico does border the Caribbean as well 😉
Good Point! I am looking for something similar to Nevis.
Can’t help with that.We go to Tulum twice a year. Nature preserve meets crunchy meets what money can buy.Still my favorite.
Thx
82 today !
I loved working and living in LA. Second favorite city in the country.
mine too
My favorite place in Mexico is Tulum but I also like Huatulco and we are in Ixtapa now
have a nice time
Was in Ixtapa last year and many years ago. There’s a Riccardo Leggoreta hotel there – he studied with Luis Barragan, the best modern Mexican architect, and one of my top 5. The hotel has a Sheila Hicks rug in the lobby, which was stunning, but they’ve not cared for well.Great place to read and relax. Top off with Sangrita or cajeta and enjoy!
.Huatulco is fabulous. Quinta Real.JLM.
My favorite place too (Tulum) — mostly for the cave diving. Will be there in Feb for a week of “cave therapy” :)Never been to Ixtapa though but I bet it’s awesome
Interesting. Was a serious ocean diver for years and have done a bunch of cenote diving in Tulum.Really didn’t like it. Claustrophic, dull, fishless and more techinical then inspiring to me.Have done open water wreck diving but fresh water, enclosed didn’t draw me in.Each to their own though.
I am quite claustrophobic in say dry caves or if someone shoved me in a dark closet, but interestingly not in a flooded cave. It’s one of my best forms of therapy (even better than yoga), kind of an “active relaxation” activity. Maybe a little hard to explain in words but it’s one place I feel really alive and comfortable (although of course you always have to be on guard as the cave will bite you if you aren’t paying 100% attention)I love ocean technical wreck diving too, but that’s more “Full contact” sport than caving 🙂 (at least in the mexico caves)
Enjoy your well deserved break!
off the bitch for a few days. good idea. merry christmas.
Thanks for all that I learned from you this year!
Enjoy! Taking your recommendation and reading The Goldfinch.
Merry Christmas, looks warm. Drink the tequila, not the water. I liked Tulum and like Puerto Vallarta as well.
Ski to sea! Can’t beat that. You’re right near Zihuantejo which is quite nice & has good restaurants. We stayed once at La Casa Que Quanta, a great boutique resort there. If you’re golfing in Ixtapa, there are crocodiles in the ponds.Happy holidays.
Good move, enjoy!Merry Christmas to everybody. A great day here with family
Cheers! Merry Christmas to the Wilsons.I have a friend who spends more than half the year in Tulum (has a place there). He decided the winters are nicer there than in Minnesota. 😉 Enjoy!
Merry Christmas! That spot looks wonderful. Enjoy!
Hey Fred – I think I saw you check in w/ John Heilemann, I enjoy listening to John H when he is a guest on MSNBC/Morning Joe.
Yup. We are vacationing with John and his wife and our kids and a bunch of their friends
He seems like a real character. I always want to be able to channel comments to him while he is on the air – to argue.#SunInTheFun
Oh ya – I see him checking into Nets Games as well – my sense is that he may live in Brooklyn
We share our Nets seasons tix
Awesome, I was a big fan of John’s book Game Change. Santa did not bring me Double Down but did bring Hatching Twitter and The Everything Store so I’ll probably finish those before I indulge myself in Double Down. Belated Merry Christmas Fred, hope you are enjoying the beach.
Happy Holidays Fred. Though I’d share my reading list for the break: http://www.lindventures.com…Also spending the break on the beach – went surfing with Dolphins yesterday (look to the left of the pic – looks like sharks!)
Happy vacation, Fred.Malaysia is a cool (cool as in interesting, not as in temperature – except the highlands) and exotic place if you need an idea for next time. Great food (3 local cuisines – Malay, Chinese, Indian – but differently Indian than Indian food), friendly people, lots of sightseeing places, nature, etc. I was there a while ago and loved it.
Happy Holidays!
NIce pic, but where are your toes?Wishing you & yours Health & Happiness though out the Holidays & the New Year!
That’s a very relaxing photo. Happy Holidays to you, too 🙂 Enjoy your retreat.
Merry Christmas all.

What is that you do differently while on a vacation ??
Merry Christmas, Fred. Happy Holidays to everyone here on AVC… cheers!
Enjoy!
You travel a fair amount. Curious what your favorite travel app is?
foursquare, of course!
