Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. It’s a day to celebrate and and care for the people we love.

A special shout-out to my son Josh who was born twenty two years ago today.

Did Oscar Wilde really refer to a “fancy car?” This is about the state of the art for cars the year that Wilde died. https://uploads.disquscdn.c

He probably just had a horse. 🙂

According to Quote Investigator: “In 1900, near the end of his life, Oscar Wilde did get a chance to interact with an automobile as reported in Hesketh Pearson’s biography of Wilde.”Maybe he was just being imaginative about what a fancy car might look like rather than literal and referring to having been in a fancy car.

          Heh. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. But I’m being such a buzzkill 😉

          1. Twain Twain

Haha, QI’s become quite the resource! There’s going to be AI-generated “quotes by famous people” that’s going to be plain wrong so “buzzkillery by QI” will become a thing. Lol!

Now you’ve gone and given me a skill idea for my MyCroft :o) “Buzzkillery” is a keeper!

A true sentiment I share.Makes me think of my mom with a tinge of sorrow and joy.Lianna and I are taking the morning off work, walking this great city then heading to the East Village to try a new salt room then brunch.

true, but as i have said here before, i prefer a conversational dialogue for my discovery over a mindless machine whenever possible. we have not outlived our usefulness to each other quite yet.Edit; If my choice is Arnold or a duck then the duck is out of luck.

It’s a day to celebrate and and care for the people we love.that’s everyday. today is just a scam. but, a decent one, and i can’t knock all the entrepreneurs out there building businesses around valentine’s day. that’s just good hustling!

I have mixed feelings on Valentines Day. Part of me says it’s a made up Holiday and you shouldn’t need one to show your love. The other part says why not specify a day where you are reminded to show your love. Then I think Hallmark is a very large client and this is their biggest day (yes there are millions of people that buy cards and gifts there today)I think I bought the strangest Valentines Day gift here. I used miles and got my Wife, Mother, Step-Sister and two kids for a flight to Alabama leaving today. They had some family business. Her Mom has only flown when I’ve gotten her tickets. She openly wept she was so happy at my daughters birthday party when she got the tickets, so even though I dropped them off at the airport and will not be with them (I have work and kids have school) I think it was a good day for my wife.

You (and others) will get a kick out of the attached email that I just received. My god it’s a throwback to the 50’s or 60’s, eh?… https://uploads.disquscdn.c

I’d definitely want the boat (and not one of those dinky ones that go into bathtubs!). A full-sized boat can take you both to different places. Diamonds don’t have as much utility.

        1. LE

I have dealt with this boat dealer before (a national chain). In looking at their website now and doing a simple search I am unimpressed by the photography of the boats. For example many of the photos that I looked at were taken on cloudy days. And with the wrong lens and angle. As such the boat doesn’t look appealing. I see similar mistakes in real estate photography. It’s as if the salesman went out on smoking break and took the pictures. And car dealers (even with used high priced cars) do the same thing. For that matter the typography in this email ad as well as the models is all wrong for the target market. I will now stop complaining but things like this really make me wonder how clueless some of these companies are. It doesn’t cost a great deal to present things in the most appealing way.

I can tell you firsthand they are terrible. Here is who you go to: http://fsyachts.com

They do nice work and are in Bear DE I see.Nice woodwork. I can smell the woodwork. This is totally a ‘do what you love’ type business.Says he built homes before doing boats. I wonder what the profit is on a boat built to order as he does.

For the same reasons, I too am ambivalent about Valentine’s Day, but I go with it. And how can I complain about receiving flowers? This year, lovely red tulips. When my kids were in elementary school and required to bring a Valentine for every classmate, I insisted that they gave handmade cards to make it somewhat more “caring.” My oldest son took it a step further and made homemade cookies (himself) and designed cards in which a plastic-wrapped cookie could be inserted. (It should have been no surprise when he decided to drop out of a Comp. Sci. degree to attend culinary school which has now morphed into studying agriculture.)

I think it is important to tag days on the calendar – especially Valentines, Mother’s and Father’s Day – to show appreciation. Sure they are “made up.” But otherwise we can just keep plowing through life and not stop to notice.Happy Valentines to Everyone! (Son Michael born just one day away.)

Happy Birthday Josh! My nephew shares your bday

  9. Kirsten Lambertsen

Parents of primary-age children all over the country dread the approach of February 14th as the stakes have gotten higher and higher for what constitutes a “valentine” for your classmates. My 2nd-grader’s haul weighs in at about 5 or 6 pounds, I’d say. Imagine 18 people each giving you five or more pieces of candy. Yes, roughly 90 pieces of candy came home today.I’m the worst parent of the month now as I only gave each kid *one mini KitKat*.Nonetheless, Happy Valentine’s Day 😉
