Nuggets

Shuggie
I didn’t post a nuggets pick last week mostly due to the fact that last friday was kind of busy and by the time I realized that I hadn’t posted a nuggets pick, it was Saturday.

So I skipped a week.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Belle and Sebastian’s new record, The Life Pursuit, recently.  There’s a definite psychedelic soul influence to The Life Pursuit which is new to the Belle and Sebastain sound and I really like it.

So I’ve been in the mood to listen to more psychedelic soul this week and when it comes to that kind of music, one of my all time favorite records is called Inspiration Information (thanks Johnny for the correction) by Shuggie Otis.  This is a great record featuring funk and soul with great guitar riffs.

There are two absolutely classic songs on Inspiration Information, the title track and Strawberry Letter 23. But the entire record is great and sort of timeless which is unusual for early 1970s soul music.  I am particularly fond of a track called Aht Uh Mi Hed.

If you like Sly and the Family Stone or early Funkadelic, I think you’ll really enjoy Inspiration Information.  It’s a classic.
