The Gotham Gal Is A Superhero
A recurring theme on Gotham Gal’s blog (my wife for those of you new to this blog) is the occasional frustrations of a woman who has given up the intellectual fruits of a full time job for the responsibility of raising a family.
In a post the other day, she ended with this. I loved it so much that I had to reblog it here.
When people ask me what I do, I do still take pause. Sometimes I
answer – nothing that I get paid for. But I came up with my favorite
answer the other day when I had to fill out my job title/description
for a political party that I had given to. The Government finds it
necessary to know what you do when you give money to a candidate. I
just wrote in Superhero.
I think you all know that she’s my superhero.
‘meet the new boss, same as the old boss’..:)Long Gotham…and pickles
howard, you listn to the Who,Who knew?
I smell and FEC audit 😉
Long live The Gotham Gal and wives and mothers everywhere.
Fred – that is so cute!
Awesome. We have a superhero at home too….she’ll love this!
She does too much for a super hero either. Love her restaurant reviews not biased.
Awesome and true.My wife writes in “Foreman”. And she always says “what’s mine is mine and what’s yours is mine”.She’s right:)
Forgot to ask.Fred, you mention they other day that you will be earmarking some of your new fund for iPhone type applications. Can you elaborate a bit. Will your approach be the same as a Series A financing or are you looking maybe to go downstream a bit with quick investments that may lead to traditional rounds. After all, building applications on existing platforms don’t take as much cash.
My wife has always felt that the question “What do you do?” is socially inappropriate, when talking to men as well as women, and I have absorbed that advice. These days, when I meet someone new and we’ve gotten into a conversation and I want to know stuff like that, I say “What are you interested in?”. I’ve found that works well and doesn’t offend anybody. And sometimes people are more interested in talking about their hobby or family than their career, anyway.
That’s a good line. I agree that too many social conversations are about workFred
Great job title! There was an email (or blog post) going around with many job titles for moms that was really neat and highly accurate. If I find it, I’ll let you know.
Found the link, here it is: http://neenmachine.com/2007… It includes a partial list of a mom’s responsibilities child including (see the post for more): care specialist chef chauffeur housekeeper laundress accountant executive secretary travel agent blogger personal shopper psychologist
I like superhero more
the who and the guess who obviously (cummings is one of my all time fave voices)
my mother in law always asks the same question of me so she can tell her freinds. I tell her to tell her friends I am a putz.
A naked putz, I believe was the term
I personally think the answer “stay at mom” is a perfect answer – as is Superhero, I like that a lot :)The problem is that people somehow does not think it is a real job, when it is- should try it for a week. And more than 8 hours a day.So Superhero it is. Sounds about right 🙂
I think she hit the nail on the head. Ya have to have super human powers to raise kids. I gotta go. I need to find my wife and tell her she is a Superhero.Peace!
Perfect! I’ve seen her super powers at work.
