Crowdfunding Brooklyn Castle: An Update
I woke up to this email:
Hi Fred,
This weekend our team traveled to Florida to compete in the National Grade Chess Championships.
We won!
Our sixth graders and our seventh graders each won the team championships after three grueling days of seven games each of which could last up to three hours.
Thank you for your support!
here is a link to a little video the kids made today…sorry to say i am better at chess that video production..if the kids look exhausted it is because we arrived back in NY at 1 am last night.

Thanks!

To everyone in the AVC community who contributed to the DonorsChoose that made this possible, thank you.
And do yourself a favor and click on that link from the email and watch the 30 second video. It made me happy and I think it will do the same for you.

Congratulations!
Nice..Yup a smile it did create.Glad to have helped a little bit with this.
Video says it all
sure does
Link not working on my mobile. 🙁
Ditto.
jim, does this work? https://www.facebook.com/ph…
Didn’t work on mobile for me either because it requires you to be logged into facebook to view. On desktop it works even if not logged in.
They might not be great at video production, but using good email marketing to time the email to arrive at the top of your inbox when you wake up! Congrats to the kids!
Would pay for them to schlep along a amateur videographer to document when they are on road trips. Something like that if done well would get a gair amount publicity and raise more money. Seems like there should be someone (like a film student) willing to do this just for food and lodging and demo reel value.
Congrats! Chess is intense! I photographed a chess tournament once, back when I was a freelance photographer.
Great vision Fred. Good to see results of your vision.
Bully for them!
They really set an example for others to follow. “The Yankees of chess”. 10 years winning streak. I watched both videos. Wow. Inspirational, to say the least.
Excellent! Thanks for sharing that with us.
Congrats! Great to see the community supporting this group. Reminds me of this book which I highly recommend http://www.amazon.com/The-A…
I’m so proud of these kids.
:24 mark. “Yeahhhh!” Love it. Way to go BC!Nice job Buster and the AVC community.
Exciting to hear about 318! Many of our PS 282 students have gone on to play for the 318 team. Congrats!PS/MS 282 is targeting the spring nationals but we did spend a small contingent to Orlando, bringing back 9th place for our 5th gradeteam. With Fred’s amazing support, we’re raising money for our travels to both states and nationals in the spring. If you’d like to support the 282 team, check out our donors choose campaign at http://www.donorschoose.org…
What super-awesome kids. So, so happy for them and their accomplishment.Big smile.. .and a sniffle too. Every kid should experience that sense of awesomeness.
Huzzah!
CHECKMATE
hehehehe
See Dick Costello’s interview for reasons why mergers are so challenging. Short Answer: Mendacity
.It takes money to fund good works, one of the reasons the war on prosperity is so silly. This success was funded by success. The other interesting thing is that the “thank you” came in the form of a video validating the notion that video — instant gratification really — is the wave of future communication.Congratulations to all and a Merry Christmas to all.JLM.
So nicely said.I’ll bet you breakfast at Balthezar that indeed instant gratification video is not the future rich media language within a year.I’ll buy even if I loose.
.Hell, I’d never miss a breakfast at Balthazar with you. What a great chat we had last time but it’s my turn to buy.I think that you really haven’t been to NYC unless you grab a bite at B’zar. No?All the best.JLM.
