Feature Friday: SoundCloud on Sonos
Yesterday Sonos announced a feature that I have been waiting years for. There is now an official SoundCloud app on Sonos.
To add SoundCloud to your Sonos system, you simply visit ‘Add Music Services’ in the new Sonos app and add it to your music services. SoundCloud tracks are also now available in the universal search feature in the new Sonos app.
We have had the unofficial SoundCloud hack for Sonos running on our systems for a long time now but it was a bit wonky to set up and it was not included in universal search.
If you want something to listen to this morning on your Sonos, you can try listening to my favorite tracks on SoundCloud.

We were playing with this in the office yesterday. Opens up so much discovery.
Really liking Vybz Kartel. It’s driven me to search for a flight to Tulum for a couple of day getaway!Thnx!
Vybz mentored a young artist called PopcaanI’ve put a bunch of his tracks in my liked feed. Check him out
Christmas in July from Sonos! Been waiting for this to happen for a long time.
Ha, I said the same thing buddy: https://twitter.com/kirklov…Very cool indeed. So is the BandCamp one.
Yep. I know what I’ll be listening to this weekend.
Me too Luke
When 2 wireless services get married, some wonderful things happen.
Sonos is a hardware company–no?
yes, but they send sound wirelessly, right? That’s what I meant.
Did a bunch of consulting to a Sonos competitor a few years ago. Dealing with the hardware companies is honestly a challenge.
what was the holdup?seems trivial to have added them a long time ago.next up: pushing youtube through. – perhaps they didn’t get the memo about becoming just a dumb piece of hardware.
how would you envision them pushing youtube?
audio
ah, the audio of youtube music. got it.
It was SoundCloud’s fault to be honest
good songs
Finally!IMHO, Sonos is a great piece of hardware but has a long way to go in terms of it’s software, especially the user interface (it looks and feels old-fashioned). I much prefer using JAMBOX with a BLE connection as it gives me more freedom than Sonon’s app. I can play any music with it!
You’re like Pitchfork Fred. Always sublime music choices.
Thanks!!
nice channel partner.
Yay!!!!!!!! Installing now!
Thanks for reminding me about SoundCloud and letting me enjoy your fantastic playlists! Looking forward to listening on Sonos at home.
This is so awesome. I listen to Sonos about 8 hours a day!Slightly dissapointed that only some of the most recent tracks of channels are playable through Sonos though and the rest seem to be greyed out and only available directly through soundcloud.com.Can’t see a reason to do that other than to try to drive people to soundcloud, but seems a weak reason. I would have thought it would be best to open it all up.
xbox soundcloud app next please
Soundcloud is by far my favorite and most used app, so this is fantastic news. Here’s a mixtape to celebrate. It took me a while to build my stream, but it was worth it.https://soundcloud.com/mesh…
I tried to embed it, but it didn’t work. Not sure what I was doing wrong.
I saw the news this morning SoundCloud is looking to sign major records in exchange for legal cover and a 3-5% stake. What are your thoughts on that? http://www.hypebot.com/hype…
Finally! Was just asked about soundcloud on Sonos two weeks ago and was surprised it wasnt there.
More music is being listened to, in more places by more people than ever. This development only increases this. I wonder what you are considering about the various rights arguments underway now, and how that may affect things going forward.
Great to bring the SoundCloud community into the living room this way.Another. I noticed that Sonos has now downplayed Spotify. They hardly mention them today. They’re out of all screenshots, no logos on the website, just a light mention in text. I wonder if Spotify Connect is such a threat to Sonos?
