Fun Friday: Funding Silicon City
AVC regulars will recall that I blogged about a Kickstarter that the NY Historical Society is doing to bring the Telstar satellite back to NYC for its Silicon City Exhibit.
The project has four days left and is still a few thousand short of its goal. I’d like to have some fun on AVC today and get this project funded.
So here’s how its going to work. If you go to Kickstarter and back this project, please leave a comment letting me know how much you funded and I will then go to Kickstarter and match whatever you backed. If you do $5, I will do $5. If you do $10, I will do $10. And so on and so forth.
Once the project crosses its $10k goal, I’m out. You all can continue to back it. I am sure they would love to raise more than the $10k goal. But I’m matching all funding that is made on Kickstarter and reported on AVC today until the project reaches it’s $10k goal.
UPDATE: At 10am EST, Larry Erlich backed the project for $250 and I matched it and we are now at the $10k goal. Well done AVC community!!!!!!
In other fun matters, here is AVC community member Jeff Carter wearing a Mets t-shirt (1969 vintage!). This was the result of the bet we made on this blog over the Mets Cubs series.

Glad you did this – great for sense of community / connectedness.Plus next time I take kids to NY I can take them there and say “we played a very small role in bringing this here”. (Not yet teenagers so they still care about things.)
This hurts! I tried to make the hurt go away via a $100 donation to CSNYC.org and hope you can donate too. I am hoping we can continue this to Bulls/Knicks, Hawks/Rangers, and with the Cubs again next year. Don’t think there is any hope for a Bears/Jets thing.
Bulls/Knicks sounds like the place you can get your money and pride back 🙂
Except that by the time the Knicks make the Finals we’ll all be in assisted living facilities.
And don’t underestimate the Raptors and Blue Jays coming back in full force.
Yes, A Cubs/Jays series would have been great…. Who am I kidding? Any Cubs series would have been great.
backed: $30. this is so cool.
thanks Laurie. I will match you now
i so respect that you are driving participation vs. just writing a check
Yeah…. open your wallets people.
Ok I just did $250.(So now we are done and can move on to discussing politics)
thanks LE. you are right. we are done. i will modify the post to reflect that. i will match now.
Donated $15; no match needed > the AVC community got this across the finish line!
Wow, in about 4 hours… the “AVC Bump” at work 😉
You’re a good person.
you are a good person
Jeff Carter is a class-act, wearing that t-shirt, donating to CSNY, and losing with such grace. +1 +1 +1
Thanks, as a Cub fan I am used to losing with grace. BTW, My friend Professor Mike Gibbs of Chicago Booth Graduate School of business also donated $100 to CSNYC. He tweeted the bet.
I pledged 45 bucks to get me that sweet autographed copy of Raiford Guins’s Game After.
Holy cow this should be easier to share…
Late to the party today and the nut is already reached.I’ll donate regardless.Have a great weekend all!
Still rocking that ‘W’ flag though Jeff. I see you! 😉
this is awesome!
Just pledged to get a signed copy of Peripheral Vision, thanks for the opportunity. I would love attending the exhibition too but we are leaving NY right the day before the opening. Aside of very dull IRS and banking stuff we have been walking Manhattan these days probably 150 blocks so far. Touristic and testing gps behaviour and signal coverage for our apps. During the walks I have been wondering about what would be a perfect tech tour in New York so, to continue having fun this Friday, please help me design “The Perfect NY Tech Tour for Larry”, I will be very thankful.
Great idea. I just pledged when I, most likely, wouldn’t have previously.GO METS
Great idea Fred. $30 done so I can get my Telstar t-shirt!
Done… Man, us folks in Minnesota have to get out of bed before noon to read this blog. Jeez…..
Thor was on fire
nice one
$30. in for the t-shirt!
