Let's Give William A Big Advance

AVC community member William Mougayar is seeking an advance to write two books about the blockchain and business. The first is called The Business Blockchain and the second is called Centerless. Instead of schelpping his work around to the various publishing houses seeking an advance, he’s gone directly to the crowd via Kickstarter. William is seeking an $18,000 advance to write and self publish these two books.

William is also going to syndicate drafts and excerpts of the book on Wattpad. You can follow him on Wattpad and get these writings delivered directly to your phone via the Wattpad app.

As the AVC’ers who hang out in the comments know, William has made himself an expert in the business of the blockchain over the past 2-3 years and is well suited to write these two books. I’ve kicked things off by backing his Kickstarter and I hope others here at AVC will join me in doing that.

Done with pleasure and best of luck with this!To those that notice there is no video for this campaign, I can attest he is real.

    1. William Mougayar

Not yet. Let it sell itself without the video. The substance is in the Story.

      1. awaldstein

People are the story behind everything my friend and you are a pretty interesting one.

      2. Jess Bachman

Hubris. Get that video up William. When in Kickstarter, do as the Kickstarted.

        1. Ryan Frew

          Do as the Kickstand?

      3. karen_e

…said no PR rep ever. 🙂

That title triggered this lyric…Well, tell him this is his last chance to get his daughter in a fine romance ‘Cause a record company, Rosie, just gave me a big advance

      1. JimHirshfield

“Toronto”, no less!! Wm’s home town 😉

        1. LE

Honestly though the Dad was right. The last thing I would want is for my daughter to marry a rock star.Which brings me to another video:https://www.youtube.com/wat

        2. William Mougayar

          Wow.

  5. kenberger

Will William accept the payments in Bitcoin??

    1. William Mougayar

Haha. Only if Kickstarter does 😉

      1. Eric Friedman

This is not a bad idea if you want to drum up more buzz about raising for the book…

        1. William Mougayar

I don’t believe Kickstarter allows it.

  6. markslater

  13. William Mougayar

Thanks Fred, and everybody. I’m in NYC today, just kicked off the campaign actually by stopping by at the Kickstarter HQ in Brooklyn. Here’s me, earlier this morning, pushing the button, with a good luck smile 🙂

    1. jason wright

did you leave your sled outside? it is Brooklyn you know 🙂

      1. William Mougayar

The sidewalks & streets were very slushy, worse than Manhattan.

    2. LE

Looks like the laptop is suspended in mid air…

      1. JimHirshfield

Not called a macbook AIR for nuttin’

    3. LE

kicked off the campaign actually by stopping by at the Kickstarter HQ in BrooklynHmm I like this as a concept for Kickstarter. Provide a room and backdrop similar to NASDAQ (modeled after the real (now fake) opening bell at NYSE). Complete with logos, maybe some employees in the background (can be easily dropped in they don’t have to be present) big kickstarter logo etc. People who could come to Brooklyn and do this would most certainly tweet out the pictures and in fact they would also get wide PR play (especially if celebrities) were involved.http://www.business.nasdaq….

      1. William Mougayar

Good idea, but it wasn’t like that. You’ll be surprised. Their office is very low key & looks like a regular old Brooklyn warehouse building from the outside. There isn’t even a logo on it!

        1. LE

Oh I know that. But with the magic of photoshop and chroma key it can easily be made special. [1][1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wi

    4. ShanaC

      Looking good

    5. David Barnes

Good luck William.(I’m a book publisher so I say that through gritted teeth.)Crowdfunding is perfect for non-fiction books. The risks are low. If you can write a good page you can write a good non-fiction book. A motivated author will deliver. The biggest challenge for book publishing is predicting what people will buy. And of course crowd funding takes care of that. But William, what publishers have told you you have to freeze the manuscript 6-9 months before publication? I’ve had authors submitting final drafts in publication week! Publishers are not as slow as we used to be. :)Perhaps the future for publishers is becoming expert at managing authors’ Kickstarter campaigns.

      1. William Mougayar

Thanks. You can make minor changes several weeks ahead. They have long lead times for their physical supply chains. Surprisingly, the big ones have not improved a lot in the speed aspects.

      2. awaldstein

You will never convince me that this is true:”The risks are low. If you can write a good page you can write a good non-fiction book. This is the problem not the solution.

    6. Kirsten Lambertsen

      There’s a Canadian – utterly undaunted by snow 🙂

    7. Brandon G. Donnelly

backed.i can’t say no to a fellow torontonian.i’m also going to share on my blog.

      1. William Mougayar

        Thanks Brandon.

    8. Rohan

      All the best, William!! 🙂

      1. William Mougayar

        Thanks Rohan

    9. Anne Libby

Go, William. It looks like your project is in great shape. #latetothegame

      1. William Mougayar

Thank you Anne. Well, technically we need to get over the target, and hopefully continue to exceed it.

        1. Anne Libby

If you’re already more than halfway, I’d bet on you to blow through the goal! Good luck.

  14. pointsnfigures

Good luck. Interesting that the focus of Bitcoin has switched from Bitcoin to the Blockchain.

    1. William Mougayar

Lots of intersects, but the corporates don’t like Bitcoin. They think blockchain sans Bitcoin is better for them . I think there’s a future for both.

  15. JLM

.I will be leading the skeptic wave of support!Rock on.JLMwww.themusingsofthebigredca…

    1. William Mougayar

Ha-ha. Books for the skeptics will be delivered with a 2×4, at no extra charge 😉

  16. Prashant Gandhi

Done. Looking forward to the drafts, books and all discussions in between.

  17. K_Berger

    Done. Best of luck!

  18. Jeff Hohner

Very well done William and good luck – very happy to support you on this.

  19. Adam Sher

Done. Fred, thanks for bringing this to the attention of the AVC community. This is a great example of using the power of an intellectual community to help bring something to life. You don’t often promote products so it’s attention grabbing when you do. W/R/T William’s book, the group on here may be considered the passionate super users. Best of luck, William!

  20. kirklove

All the best William. Happy to support.

    1. William Mougayar

      Thanks Kirk. Appreciated.

  21. Frank Traylor

Done. I look forward to following the process and seeing the product.

    1. William Mougayar

Me too :). And thank you

  22. Tom Labus

Congrats William. Looking forward to reading them. I hope Bitcoin/Blockchain makes it past the phenomenon stage. I’d really like to see the NASDAQ project flourish

    1. William Mougayar

      True. Me too

  23. Richard

William how about adding an audio version of the book to Kickstarter options?

    1. William Mougayar

I thought about it, but didn’t want to increase the complexity of the project. I think we could do this later.

      1. Richard

Should I wait to support? Or will you grandfather me in?

        1. William Mougayar

You only buy audio books? I have no idea what it will take to convert to an audio version yet.

  24. ShanaC

I wish I wasn’t cash tight right now

  25. Donna Brewington White

Well that’s a no-brainer. Count me in.And I am so impressed with this conference William has organized.http://startupmanagement.or…Way to go, William!

    1. William Mougayar

Thank you Donna for your generosity.

      1. Donna Brewington White

        Let’s DO this!(You’re so welcome.)

      2. Twain Twain

A-ha, so instead of SF, London, NY, Barcelona (for Mobile World Congress) Toronto will become a destination. This will surprise you but I’ve never been to Toronto. My relatives and family friends are in VC and Edmonton.Backed your project and looking forward to reading the books — not that, mathematically, I’m 100% persuaded by Blockchain’s structure but open-minded about the applications and innovations that may happen on it.

        1. William Mougayar

          Great. Thanks

  26. JoeK

Great job William. You may have come across http://www.bitlisten.com/ before, but if not, I recommend taking a few seconds to check it out – I find it strangely magical, and makes bitcoin seem like something more than just some hexadecimal characters in a file.

  27. Kirsten Lambertsen

Done! I’ll show up as Daisy Thrash. She does all my Kickstarter backing (and Patreon) for me 😉

  28. Joe Cardillo

So pleased to see this William, it’s a no brainer next step and I’ll be happy to help support it.

  29. Phil Hayes-St Clair

    Done!

    1. William Mougayar

      Thank you Phil.

  30. Chris Hamoen
