My Very Own Rare Pepe

I’ve written about Rare Pepe a bit here at AVC. I am fascinated by the combination of trading cards, internet memes, and crypto assets that Rare Pepe represents.

This morning I woke up to this news on Twitter:

Of course I went to my Rare Pepe Wallet and offered 400 Rare Pepes for it. I hope that trade clears and I become the owner of one of the 100 that will exist.

It is Series 21, Card 14 in case others want to collect this gem.

I’m fascinated by the differences in nerdiness between genders. Women can get nerdish about the engineering of shoes. Here are a pair of mine: https://uploads.disquscdn.c…Men get nerdish about trading cards (and I say this as a child who collected and swapped sports cards).

I know some men that are crazy about shoes. Look at eBay. Socks are even worse. I know tons of them.

I haven’t graduated to socks yet, LOL.I do own this green abalone pen which I got in Mountain View at a crafts festival. The guy who made them is brilliant. He’s the only person who could do a single sheet of abalone like this, I think.Yes, it’d have been cool if Rare Pepe Fred had been done with a sparkly, glimmering green.https://uploads.disquscdn.c

Is that color duck egg, mint julep or seafoam? Maybe the designer can share the RGB he used, thanks!

reminds me of that movie Avatar. Maybe VC’s are all green when they get animated!

How much could we bid, NOT to see this again ?!;)

    1. jason wright

      significant sums. cunning strategy 🙂

  7. Alex Felix

Just looked at the marketplace and the lowest offer is 10K pepecash (or $156) so a 400 bid will not clear. It looks like 1-2 people own the lot so maybe they will sell you one!

    1. Sebastien Latapie

NOoooo…. Bid 500 for one, doubt I’ll be getting one then :/

  14. Crypta Punk

Hi Fred, if you like rare, digital art, have a look at what the guys at Larva Labs have created! http://www.larvalabs.com/cryptopunks They are 10,000 cryptographically unique collectible characters with proof of ownership stored on the Ethereum blockchain. The incredible thing is that a perpetual mini-market is built into each one. Owners can offer for sale and those that have their heart set on one can bid what they want, while owners choose to accept the bid or not. All transactions and ownership transfers happen trustlessly and immediately with no third party involved! This has real use cases for any digital asset. The smart contract went live just 11 days ago and there have been almost 6,000 transactions. The total value of all punks sold so far is $23,000, total current bids total $36,000. The current market cap of these little guys is almost $560,000.There is a budding, vibrant community forming at https://discordapp.com/chan… for trading the Crypto Punks. Enjoy.

CONTRIBUTORS:OFF TOPIC ALERT!BITCOIN TRANSACTION FEE $5.00The fact that early supporters were able to mine BITCOIN for pennies and now the King Makers chips in the game has this crypto up to $2547.16 with a $5.00 if you want to play…..http://www.coindesk.com/price/https://bitinfocharts.com/c…Blockchain.info has requested a $26.00. (Just getting pretty silly at this point)http://www.newsbtc.com/2017…Why just not make the fee $2547.16 equal to whatever the current price.

it’s pay to play. the whole system will break.

jason wright:if the smart money wants this currency to be accepted then there is no way to pay $5.00 for a Starbucks coffee and $5.00 transaction fee which us merchants pay for our customers when they pay with VISA, MC or the dreaded high fee AMEX. Can’t make it any simplier.

I read a little about Rare Pepe when you last posted about it. Found some strange associations with the alt-right movement that turned me off.

    1. James

this. fred is usually more astute than this.

  17. James

Fred, maybe you’ve done this before, but can you address the ALT-right associations of Pepe and why you’re fine with it anyway?I get that it wasn’t originally alt-right, but I feel confident that for a significant number of your readers, Pepe was first heard of in the context of the alt-right.I personally find your interest in it kinda strange for that reason.

  18. creative group

James:PSA (Public Service Announcement)if you read anything regarding Fred you can bet your home on it that his interest in Pepe has nothing to do with the ALT-Right or anytning associated with the meaning they apply. Guarantee it!This answer will suffice because Fred will have no need to respond or address it.We are not fond of the Pepe post taking all the air out the room when important issues of the moment needs to be address and Fred has the platform. Unless Fred was in a coma and awoke thinking he was Stephen K. Bannon there is no association.History on the innocent Pepe that the ALT-Right has attached themselves for a mascot.https://www.theguardian.com…Captain Obvious!

Fred, glad you were finally “pepe-fied.” You might want to check out a new project that just launched yesterday. AVC might want to get in on the Initial Pixel Offering https://medium.com/@PixelOf

  20. jason wright

    uncanny resemblance.

  21. Twain Twain

Goodness, Charlie, you win the Internet today! LOL.I never would have made the connection. I was thinking it was Pepe’s ironic comments on Botox and plastic surgery to inflate Fred’s features in that way.
