Funding Friday: Funding Films
The Gotham Gal and I are at the Sundance Film Festival this weekend and we are going to watch all sorts of films, from features, to documentaries, to short films, and more. It is a blast to see such a variety of films and the filmmakers who made them. We will see a few of these films that were funded on Kickstarter.
So I’m featuring a documentary about surf culture in the 60s that needs another $30k (ish) to finish the film and show it at an upcoming film festival. I backed it this morning and maybe some of you will too.

I love films and the industry.Living and working in the film biz in LA was pretty special to me.Enjoy!(Just listened to a review of what to see at Sundance on Slash Film Daily.)
I am a huge fan of all things salt water, especially surfing! What a cool Kickstarter project. Here’s the trailer for a film called Under An Arctic Sky, a short documentary about surfing in the arctic circle. You can watch the film on Netflix.https://www.youtube.com/wat…
You like salt water, huh?Okay if my startup works, no, I’ll say when my startup works, maybe I’ll have a special boat built just for circumnavigating the world at a latitude just a little south of Cape Horn, that is, the Screaming 60s.To make it more fun, that is, into the winds, go around from east to west! The reason, of course, is that at that latitude the winds can circumnavigate the globe without ever crossing significant land and get going because of warmer air moving south and, thus, due to the rotation of the earth, moving east. Will spend a lot of time with green water and ice over the bow. Will want a super strong hull with a super strong super structure with even stronger bridge and monster strong glass. Will need super strong chairs with strong seat belts and maybe shoulder harnesses. Will want multiple Diesel engines, multiple screws, multiple rudders both in the rear and midships. Will want at least 2 of everything and at least 3 of everything important. Maybe should design the boat so that it could roll 360 degrees and self-right, harmlessly! The boat design should anticipate one heck of a load of ice on the superstructure.Like to go along?Uh, before leaving, might have some sea trials in the winter in the North Atlantic, in particular, the Denmark Straits. That should be enough salt water!
My sister has a short film at Sundance this year that she directed….check out Libre if you get the chance.
