Getting people reading anything long form again is a major challenge. I wish I knew how to do that.

Agree. It is coming back though i believe.Interesting that the most interesting of the natural wine magazines out there The Noble Rot is actually a hard copy long form quarterly pub.Only one i subscribe to and enjoy sitting with it when it arrives.

            what about the taste?

          2. awaldstein

Natural wine is less a style and more an approach.Based largely on an emphasis on regenerative farming and the premise that less manipulation is used in the cave and nothing is added with the sometimes exception of small amounts of So2, usually at bottling. This drives some characteristics cross different styles and more quality variations at the lower end of the skill spectrum. It’s a global community of some wonder.Learning what you like within this approach is a true [email protected] if you care to chat further or have questions.

‘blipvert’ psychological conditioning is difficult to overcome. Pavlovian, and it’s gotten a whole loss worse with the attention economy of the web.

“They who have put out the people’s eyes reproach them of their blindness.”Enemy? Breathtaking hypocrisy. There are more journalists working in the public relations and lobbying industries than in conventional journalism. If journalism was ever previously ‘pure’ it sold itself out to vested interest long ago. A form of prostitution, but now they want our help? Funny.

For the reader, the value of the past (journalism) is limited to how it applies to the future. For the journalist, the trick is to fool people about its relevance.

  4. JLM

.Journalism is dead. Long live journalism.Journalists killed journalism. They stopped being purveyors of facts. They became advocates for a single interpretation of an agenda. They began to lose their relationship with the truth — they stopped having actual sources for their stories, editors stopped challenging sources, and the stories became just that — stories. It is ironic that this topic is up today on the day after Newsweek.com reported that Donald J Trump was playing golf at his Trump National Golf Course.Newsweek’s Jessica Kwong, a very talented writer and speaker of English, Spanish, and Chinese — she’s smart — reported that Donald J Trump was “tweeting and golfing on Thanksgiving.”In fact, no such thing was even true. President Trump was in Afghanistan serving Thanksgiving fare to warfighters and speaking directly to them as to his plans to end that war and bring them home. How could any credible reporter have made up such a report? You tell me. Please. When outed, this is how Jessica Kwong responded:”Trump headed to Afghanistan to surprise U.S. troops on Thanksgiving https://t.co/f7Xeqz1ZGQ Deleting this tweet because it was written before knowing about the president’s surprise visit to Afghanistan-an honest mistake. Story has already been updated, as shown in the screenshot. pic.twitter.com/g9CfPaV2kQ— Jessica Kwong (@JessicaGKwong) November 29, 2019″”. . . an honest mistake . . . ” Give me must a second to stop laughing. Sorry.Do you get the irony? She “reported” her story BEFORE the event even happened. What does it take to do something like that? Hint: It is not journalism. It is fake news. The President of the United States flew 8,313 miles to speak directly to our warfighters and the “journalists” reported he was playing golf while they were snug in their beds with their footy PJs on.That is why journalism is dead. This is how journalism became an enemy of the truth. As fiction writers pretending to write truth, they are the enemy of the people. This ENEMY thing is another outlet for more of the same. The same smug snarky foul disdain for any view that does not conform to their single purpose agenda.Journalism is dead. Long live journalism. Good luck with that.I think Pres Trump is surfing today.JLMwww.themusingsofthebigredca…

But she got your attention, which seems to now be the only game in town. I’d never heard of her before your comment. Now i’ve heard of her. As you say, she’s smart. It’s digital fly fishing, and Trump is her lure. Poor Donald. So abused.

      1. JLM

.Haha, it’s digital chum with very few fish in the chum line.Of course, Donald J Trump invented this game, continues to be its finest practitioner, and owns the agenda. He should be paying rent for all the brains he occupies. Small rent, because they are small brains. Now, the press is relegated to reporting his tendencies — his thoughts before he even deigns to think them — without a stick of actual journalistic reportage or creative analysis. We will look back on this from some point in the future when the scar tissue closes and realize that this disruptor, this Donald J Trump, reinvented the game and was likely the only man on the planet who could do it.The animal fearlessness of President Trump (which is in some measure a knee jerk reaction to his cowardly avoidance of service during the Vietnam War) is breathtaking. The institutional Deep State he is tangling with will coalesce like never before. And, Pres Trump — in a second term — will out all of them, confront all of them, and beat all of them. My only regret is he can’t have 6 terms. He continues to be the political chemotherapy America needs.JLMwww.themusingsofthebigredca…

Journalism is bad, alright. And IMHO it is MUCH worse in just the last few years, shockingly so since I long thought that they were about as bad as they could get. Nope — I was wrong. They got a lot worse. Now as far as I can tell MSM (mainstream media — ABC, AP, CBS, CNN, LAT, MSNBC, NBC, NYT, and WaPo) journalism is just smelly bait for the ad hook and otherwise propaganda for special interests. Apparently there are at least three significant, special techniques: (1) gang-up, pile-on, repeat what all the rest say, maybe with some orchestra conductor (maybe they meet at some bar in Manhattan) on the story for the next few days, (2) borrow from Bernays and have long running narratives, (3) borrow from Nazi Dr. J. Goebbels and his, IIRC,If you tell a lie often enough, then people will believe it. Eventually even you will come to believe it.And why just now is the political propaganda that of the Democrats? Apparently because the gang-up, pile-on has to be for just some one party; nearly all the MSM is based in NYC; and getting the NYT and the rest in NYC all to switch to favor the Republicans or even just to be objective is essentially impossible now. There may be a switch or a break up if enough of the gang-up members go out of business. Some of the best examples of the propaganda were the ozone scare with the “bad ozone” and the “good ozone” that apparently had some significant business financial gains from some patents on some new refrigeration working fluids and laws against the old, long since dirt cheap working fluids, the Russia, Russia, Russia hoax, the Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine hoax, and the evil, sinful humans with their dirty, dangerous carbon committing a transgression against the 100% all natural, pure, environment, with coming retribution of a “global warming, climate change, climate crisis, climate emergency, scorched planet” or some such, followed by redemption via sacrifice, e.g., $90+ trillion to fix the damage to the climate — right, earth worship quasi religion trilogy led by a divinity school student drop out.To debunk the global warming hysteria, can seehttps://continuations.com/p…But some of this journalism garbage goes way back: (1) There is an old Andy Hardy movie from the 1930s that laughs at the junk in newspapers; apparently the audiences then were quite prepared to understand the laughter. (2) There is a 1940 or so Gary Cooper movie Meet John Doe that shows some of the techniques of bad journalism. The 1950s movie The Thing shows some more. (3) My brother, 3 years older, as a college freshman had his English prof just flatly state that news articles follow the rules of classic formula fiction. (4) No way, nohow does journalism writing meet even the common standards of high school term paper writing.I refuse to pay any attention to the MSM. E.g., I read Hacker News daily; the NYT puts a lot of posts there about their articles; and I flatly refuse to read any of them except when I want to keep more evidence of their junk — on paper can’t compete with Charmin and on the Internet useless for wrapping dead fish heads, really an enemy of truth and the people. The solution to bad journalism is just to have it go out of business.A good example of serving special interests with gang-up, pile-on, continuing narrative, Goebbels style propaganda is inhttps://www.youtube.com/wat…
