Biodigital
I am really into embed codes. I think the ability to take content and software from one app and inject it into another app is one of the coolest things about the Internet.
Biodigital is a 3D visual model of the human body. Think of it as Google Maps for the body.
I’ve had issues with my MCL in my left knee for the past five or six years. I slightly tore it and although it has healed, I still get pain in it from time to time.
So I went into Biodigital today to take a look at what the MCL actually looks like. Here it is:
That’s pretty cool, right?
If you want to get lost in the human body for the next hour, go check out Biodigital.

Pretty cool! Showed this to my brother in law who is starting up a Physical Therapy clinic in Detroit. Some of the new tech I have seen with medicine, especially relating to PT is really neat. Should increase positive outcomes for people. Eventually, there might be a network where PTs can develop brands and do distance physical therapy. https://www.regrouptherapy…. This company is doing it with mental health.
A topic I think about.Personal brands I agree. Franchise type methodologies possibilities. Distance physical therapy for a number of dynamics is a huge leap that I wouldn’t personally bet on–nor would I use it.
what new tech are you referring to?
There’s actually a competitive product based out of Detroit called coherentrx (https://m.coherentrx.com/). I know they are doing some work with local Detroit health systems (Beaumont and Henry Ford I believe). Your brother in law should take look! Random bit of background – the founder was previously in publishing and started 7 x 7 out in SF.
how did you tear it?
slipped on a wet spot in my basement in my biking shoes
Very cool! I too love embed codes. There is a great book from one of the Disqus engineers on Third Party Javascript (http://thirdpartyjs.com/) if anyone is interesting building an embed-code based product. It helped me build my own embedded app SaaS business.
Yes, Disqus book is good.
Nice share, thanks!
I get paid around six to eight thousand dollars /month with my online job. If you are willing to do simple computer-based work for 2-5 h /day from your home and earn valuable payment for doing it… Try this gig http://ulinks.net/1e850zsdddrdf
Thanks Fred… and here I was thinking I was going to actually get some real work done today.
You are welcome 😉
I think you look better in the flesh. But seriously, great embed.
Touch the bones and you will see why people now call Fred Goldfinger!
better in the flesh…great embedComing from you I almost read that as “great in bed”.
Ah, finally, an interesting App that’s only available on Android! Take that, iPhone users 😉
Just Android? Not a chance! 😉 BTW, how is the book going?
It only showed Android on their website. Book is doing great and strong. Thanks for asking.
They had this on an iPad Pro at Apple and I so want it for the one I bought. Except I will be lost for hours in its coolness, so I have to wait until vacation!
Will there be 3D printing in surgery punching out your skin?
FRED:receive this comment with open arms. Many of the technology companies you submit on this blog is portfolio motivated and provides us commoners with a glimpse of what will or protentionally could be in the marketplace. This Biodigital view of the knee is F’in amazing. Those of us suffering from knee and joint pain/injuries from our athletic school days are haunting us now. Thanks
This is awesome! Could very easily change the biotechnology industry!
Cool! Can’t wait to show this to my kids.
Had a conversation with my granddaughter a few months ago, she was 3 then. I have curated some apps for her, most of them from toca boca as we have talked about before. She told me ‘grandad, I believe I have a skull inside my head’, she was a bit worried about it because she usually tries to avoid hazard signs that picture skulls, specially the version with the electric crossed rays. If she can’t avoid walking beside the sign she covers her eyes with her hands. I have noticed she snoops. Her father has asked me not to overdo it, to blend digital experiences with real ones, and I agree with that and try to comply, but I am sure that access to cleverly designed educational software is crucial for the development of this generation. Granted access to modern educational tools should be a human right in the 21st century, specially for kids.
So you upgrade to Premium? And you can take pictures with your camera? How did you get that shot?
OK never mind- it looks like it’s just a shot of the model’s ACL.I thought it was yours. My mind was blown there for a sec.
The 3D elements are very cool!
Images are great, but what’s information to they provide not otherwise available? what’s the treatment?
I think it’s strictly infotainment with the potential to get some people interested in medicine and science..
Fascinating. Very powerful. In the 90’s I worked with some scientists on the Visible Human project. They took a convicted killer that had been executed, froze the cadaver, cut the cadaver into ~2,000 slices and took a picture of each. Just another indication of how far things have come.
I remember that well!
what we are seeing is this human being;https://en.wikipedia.org/wi…he didn’t know about the Visible Human Project; https://en.wikipedia.org/wi…
Anyone else think the knee looks like it’s held together with duct tape?
But why look at bodies in general when you can look at yours specifically? Check out https://klarismo.com
Back in the days when Flash was the best way to do Embeds (and really one of the primary reasons that YouTube took off), there was a strong belief that “Embed and Spread” was going to emerge as THE de facto way to create virality. To me, one of the biggest missed opportunities for Twitter (beyond killing their developer ecosystem twice) was that in focusing so hard on driving users to their web site, they opted not to grow Twitter into a kind of Wall-less Wall (i.e., decentralized). In this scenario, the Twitter embed would have been an ever improving, purpose based runtime that, in addition to supporting tweets, URLs, and rich media, would have supported the ability to build lightweight, embed-able apps that were a hybrid of client-server-cloud. Alas.
This is really cool!
Thank you, @fredwilson:disqus! Just opened this up with my nursing student wife next to me and she said, “that’s cool! Send me the link!” 🙂
There stuff may be good, but when I see claims on the title of the book stating “end back pain now and forever”, I’m hearing a carnival barker / snake oil salesmen. You can’t have a rx without a dx.
